On Friday, October 22, the Smart Deal Innovation Awards ceremony for care homes was held. This call for projects, launched by the Alpes-Maritimes Department, aims to promote technological innovation in care homes. Lumeen has been deployed in 17 care homes Alpes-Maritimes

“We should not add years to life, but life to years.” Charles Ange Ginésy, president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, began his speech with this quote from J.F. Kennedy. How can we do that?

The winners of the Smart Deal Innovation competition for care homes were announced this Friday at the Nice City Council Chamber. Out of 52 applicants, 42 care homes , private, and nonprofit care homes in the department were selected. Spread across 20 municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes, all will test the implementation of innovative digital solutions—including Lumeen—designed to meet the practical, day-to-day needs of residents and care staff.

A Department Committed to Healthy Aging

The Alpes-Maritimes Department has announced its intention to provide more than €500,000 in funding for innovation in care homes. On August 27, 2020, it therefore launched a call for projects to support the implementation of technological innovations in these facilities. 

‍

Sixteen innovative solutions aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and working conditions for healthcare professionals were selected. Among these, Lumeen was the most in-demand and has been implemented in 17 facilities across the department.

Divided into six categories (digital animation, virtual animation, interactive TV, multisensory experiences, home automation, and telemedicine), these solutions offer numerous benefits: improving quality of life, personal fulfillment, health, and sleep; stimulating memory and the senses; supporting motor and cognitive rehabilitation; preventing risks; strengthening bonds with loved ones; and promoting digital inclusion. Lumeen falls under the “virtual entertainment” category and directly addresses the needs of our seniors to improve their well-being and quality of life.

Innovations for residents—and for caregivers , too caregivers 

‍

While these innovations are primarily designed to improve residents’ well-being, they do not overlook the needs of care staff. Working conditions in care homes are care homes always easy, and solutions must be found to improve them. Thanks to the implementation of these new technologies, care staff will see improvements in the efficiency of care delivery, the quality of their interactions with residents, and their own working conditions.
