Our History

Lumeen was born in 2019 from the initiative of two brothers, Corentin and Robin Metgy, who wanted to offer moments of escape to their grandmother, bedridden in a nursing home.

Combining expertise in immersive technologies and a long experience as nurses, they saw the immediate impact of virtual reality on the well-being and wonder of fragile people but also on its therapeutic and non-drug potential. ‍

Convinced that virtual reality was going to become a permanent fixture in the medical field, they imagined a turnkey solution that was intuitive for healthcare teams and adapted to the needs of patients and persons supported.

Their objective: to make these immersive human and therapeutic experiences accessible to as many people as possible.

Our team

Although Lumeen was born from the initiative of two brothers, its development is based on a multidisciplinary, structured and complementary team.

Our team brings together managers managing operations and strategy, developers designing software and interfaces, audiovisual professionals creating high-quality immersive content, but also former caregivers, researchers and paramedics guaranteeing a thorough understanding of clinical, field and regulatory needs.

Everyone brings their expertise to make Lumeen a credible, innovative solution adapted to the needs of the field. This diversity allows Lumeen to continuously improve its system, while currently supporting more than 900 hospitals, clinics and medical and social institutions.

Our mission

The name “Lumeen” was chosen because it reflects both our personal history and our mission.

It is a contraction of “Lucienne”, the first name of the grandmother of the 2 founders, and the word “illuminate”.

Our ultimate goal is simple and powerful: to brighten the day of 10,000 people, every day.

Our vision

Independence as a guarantee of trust

Since its creation in 2018, Lumeen has made the choice of self-financing.

Without ever raising external capital, Lumeen has remained completely independent and family-owned. This model allows us to maintain total control of our decisions, our vision and our strategy, making us a reliable and committed partner.

Therapeutic virtual reality: real impact and immense potential

Over the past 30 years, hundreds of clinical studies have demonstrated the therapeutic benefits of virtual reality. VR is no longer a novelty in the medical field, it is already firmly integrated into care protocols.

Furthermore, virtual reality is a rapidly evolving technology. Headsets are becoming increasingly powerful, compact, and affordable, meaning the rise of VR in healthcare is still only just beginning

Building a global reference

Lumeen is an independent, ambitious company that wants to have a lasting impact beyond its borders.

Our ambition: to become a world leader in new immersive therapies, to contribute to the well-being of millions of people and to advance research

Our commitments

At Lumeen, we aim to combine the development of our medical device with a caring, sustainable, and inclusive approach to corporate social responsibility.

Each year, we assess our progress in our CSR efforts through EcoVadis—a leading international platform that evaluates more than 100,000 companies worldwide. We rank among the top 7% of highest-rated companies and have been awarded a silver medal for our practices in the areas of the environment, social responsibility, human rights, and ethics.

Ecovadis Silver Rating Badge (Top 15%) with an overall score of 72 out of 100 and in the 93rd percentile, valid through December 2024.

We are committed to minimizing our carbon footprint, by implementing virtuous actions:

During production

  • Reduction of energy consumption thanks to serverless cloud servers. The result: less energy waste, optimized costs and reduced environmental impact.
  • Additive manufacturing of our foams, limiting the waste of material and waste.
  • Complete internalization of the production of our medical devices in Lyon, France and complete revalorization of waste: 100% of the residues generated during manufacturing are reused or recycled.

At the end of the life cycle

  • Recycling of all electronic equipment at the end of its life.
  • Systematic reuse of packaging and repackaging offers to extend the life of products, and limit waste.
  • Digital solidarity: donation of 96 VR headsets to the Lyon-based association Weeefund to fight against digital exclusion and electronic waste.

Social and environmental action

  • Support for the preservation of biodiversity through the Beauval Nature Association, for the conservation and research on animal species.
  • Commitment to the health sector: participation in solidarity events such as the La Scintillante race, which finances cancer research with the Léon Bérard Center.

This approach testifies to our desire to offer innovative, ethical and environmentally friendly solutions.
