Finding a name for a startup is no easy task. Indeed, the best names are pretty, short, and memorable. They must also be available and unique to be identifiable on the internet. And the icing on the cake is finding a name that, in addition to all that, has a connection to the business and history of the company. It has been long and difficult, but “Lumeen” incorporates all of these characteristics.
The idea of Lumeen was born from the desire of two brothers to combine their knowledge to offer moments of escape to their grandmother in a nursing home. Robin, who came from nursing, and I, passionate about new technologies. Virtual reality in nursing homes, a crazy idea but full of meaning. Visit Venice, Japan and the pyramids of Egypt; swim with dolphins, admire the Northern Lights or see landscapes known from your childhood... What is better for these isolated and dependent people? When we saw the pleasure our prototype brought to our grandmother and the residents of her nursing home, we decided to develop our concept to benefit as many people as possible.
“Lumeen” was unanimously accepted instantly. The Eureka effect came after 3 months of research, a dozen brainstorming sessions, a long list of more than 200 ideas, and a weekend of inspiration as a team in the mountains. This name pays tribute to the woman who inspired us and reminds us of our mission. Our grandmother is called Lucienne and we love our grandma Lulu a lot. Our mission is to illuminate the daily lives of vulnerable people. Lulu + lights up = Lumeen.
Today, we continue to explore the therapeutic potential of virtual reality and are interested in other medical applications of this technology. For example, we are developing a relaxation solution based on medical hypnosis in collaboration with the Hospices Civils de Lyon to improve the care pathway and reduce drug consumption in the operating room. We are also opening up to other populations who could benefit from our tool, such as people with disabilities or in palliative care.
“Lumeen” is benevolent and will know how to illuminate the daily lives of elderly people as well as the anxiety-provoking and painful moments of hospitalized patients.
