Blue Week, which takes place every October, is a week dedicated to highlighting the role of older adults in social life. Throughout France, municipalities and organizations host workshops and activities for older adults that foster connections between generations.

This is the case for the Municipal Social Action Center in the city of Charly, which enlisted the help of young people from the Children’s City Council (CME) to lead a workshop for elderly people Headsets virtual realityLumeen headsets. The involvement of the CME youth in “Blue Week” helps introduce young people to real-world politics and the challenges of preventing the loss of independence.

The Lumeen device is very easy to use, and users can get the hang of it quickly. With guidance from the CCAS facilitator—and already very comfortable with digital technology—the children were able to master the tool in just a few minutes.

The Lumeen platform offers a rich and varied catalog of more than a hundred immersive films on the themes of travel, nature culture. The children and the facilitator involved the seniors in choosing the program, which included a hot-air balloon ride, a visit to a glacier, and concluded with a trip to the island of Santorini. Thanks to the visual feedback, activity sheets, and annotations provided on the tablet, the young participants were able to encourage discussion and guide the seniors throughout the experiences.

The tablet could also be displayed on a television screen, allowing more participants to take part in the experiment.

Lumeen also offers a program based on Google Street View that, at the end of the session, allowed the seniors to take a virtual trip back to the places that were meaningful to them during their childhoods and share their memories with the young people: it was a very emotional experience.
